POSITION

Job Title: Family Pastor/Minister

Job Status: Full-time, Exempt

PURPOSE

The Family Pastor/Minister will oversee and lead family ministries, focusing on Children, Youth, College and Young Adults and their families, to advance Westminster Chapel’s mission of Jesus transformation. This role involves guiding the Family Ministries team—including direct oversight of the Children’s Director and Youth Director—and fostering a comprehensive strategy to disciple families, align curriculum and ministry philosophy, and strengthen relational ministry across generations. The Family Pastor will equip families to grow in faith, establish key discipleship milestones, and implement strategies for volunteer and student leadership development.

Reports to Lead Pastor

Supervises: Children’s Director, Youth Director, and family ministries team

Collaborates with Objective teams, equips and empowers deacons, leaders, and volunteer teams.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

Leadership and Strategic Vision

  • Serve on the Leadership Team to collaborate on whole-church vision and strategy, actively participating in leadership team meetings as well as leadership community and elder meetings and retreats. Ensure alignment and integration of family ministries within the broader mission of the church.
  • Provide teaching and relational ministry to high school students, building trust and fostering discipleship, while navigating the transition of the Youth Director’s role into a collaborative team member under the family ministries structure.
  • Lead an evaluation/audit of the effectiveness of the current youth and children’s ministry strategy identifying areas for growth, alignment, and innovation to better serve families and the next generation.
  • Make strategic decisions on the timing and structure of weekly gatherings for middle school, high school, and a burgeoning 5th-6th grade ministry, in collaboration with the Leadership Team and Family Ministries team. These plans will account for the anticipated launch of a two-service model and the unique developmental needs of each group.
  • Strategize and cast a compelling vision for increasing the visibility and participation of kids and youth during Sunday morning gatherings. This includes fostering an atmosphere of family connection and intergenerational discipleship by encouraging children and youth to serve, participate, and lead during services.
  • Develop and implement key growth strategies to reach more families across the Eastside, leveraging impactful events, strategic ministry partnerships, and effective weekly programming paradigms.
  • Launch and develop a College and Young Adults ministry that is fully integrated into the broader life of the church, connecting participants with existing community life opportunities such as D Groups and Groups.

 

Discipleship

  • Foster a multifaceted approach to equipping the entire family for spiritual growth, creating resources and opportunities for connection.
  • Establish clear discipleship milestones from birth through young adulthood, engaging and equipping both parents and children. Align curriculum, worship approach, and ministry philosophy to ensure developmental consistency across all age groups.
  • Evaluate and adapt programming for children and youth to reflect discipleship milestones, strategic goals, and developmental needs.
  • Create regular connection points and events for College students and Young Adults, building a community that aligns with the church’s mission of Jesus transformation.


Growth

  • Foster a culture of invitational discipleship, creating environments where families feel empowered and equipped to invite others into the life of the church. This includes developing strategies to reach and engage young families, children, and students both inside and outside the church walls.
  • Create systems for developing leaders at every level of the family ministries, from volunteers to student leaders, ensuring that leadership pipelines are robust, sustainable, and reflect the values of the church.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the Children’s Director and Youth Director, coaching them for personal and professional growth.
  • Ensure that family ministries contribute to the overall growth of the church, working closely with other ministry leaders to align goals and strategies for expanding the reach and influence of Westminster Chapel, particularly among younger generations.
  • Strategically plan and implement growth and outreach initiatives to engage College students and Young Adults, both within the church and in the surrounding community, fostering a sense of belonging and purpose. Recruit, equip, and train a team of volunteers to support the ministry, ensuring a culture of relational discipleship and sustainable leadership development.

  • Cultivate a welcoming, inclusive, and relational culture where families feel a sense of belonging and community. This includes ensuring that family ministries are not just programs, but places where relationships are formed, nurtured, and deepened among families, church members, and staff.
  • Strengthen intergenerational connections by creating opportunities for families, Youth, college/young adults and older generations to interact, build relationships, and serve together, reinforcing the familial nature of the church.
  • Model Christ-like leadership by creating a culture of servant leadership, where team members, volunteers, and staff are encouraged to serve with humility and grace, cultivating an environment of mutual support and accountability.
  • Emphasize the importance of family ministry as a church-wide priority, ensuring that family-focused initiatives are a core component of Westminster Chapel’s vision, mission, and ministry strategy.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Master’s degree in theology, ministry, education, or a related field is preferred
  • Strong recruiting and leadership skills and the ability to build and manage a team of volunteers effectively.
  • Proven experience in leading and developing family, youth, or children’s ministry in a church or parachurch context, with a minimum of 5 years in ministry leadership roles. Knowledge of child and adolescent development and how it impacts ministry programming and discipleship approaches.
  • Strong theological understanding and ability to communicate Scripture effectively in teaching and relational ministry contexts. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to teach, inspire, and lead in both large and small group settings.
  • Strategic leadership skills, including vision casting, program evaluation, and long-term ministry planning. Demonstrated success in leading teams, developing leaders, and equipping volunteers for ministry.
  • Relational ministry skills with the ability to connect with children, youth, parents, and volunteers across generations. A collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively as part of a team and contribute to the overall leadership of the church.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt ministry approaches to be inclusive and reflective of diverse cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds, ensuring all families feel welcomed and valued in the church community.
  • Commitment to Westminster Chapel’s mission, values, and statement of faith, with a desire to integrate the family ministry vision into the broader church strategy.
