Position Summary:

 

Forgotten Man Ministries (FMM) is seeking a full-time (40 hours/week) leader to manage, provide leadership, vision and direction to Chaplains leadiing spiritual programing in 15 eastern Michigan county jails.

 

Primary responsibility is to coordinate, guide and provide oversight to the "lead chaplain" at every eastern MI county jail served by FMM. The "lead chaplain" is responsible for all spiritual programs; as well as, recruitment, training, and oversight of volunteers. A high priority for them is to develop alliances with re-entry organizations and develop relationships with Christian leaders, Christian churches, while seeking the support of the broader community to advance the FMM mission inside the jails.

 

Founded in 1966 and headquartered in Grand Rapids, MI, Forgotten Man Ministries’ primary purpose is to rehabilitate inmates in Michigan county jails through chaplain-led, Christian biblically-based programs. This is accomplished by the placement of a trained and dedicated chaplain in each of the 35 MI county jails currently served (20 > west region sites; 15  > east region sites). Our chaplains provide spiritual care on both individual and group levels. Mature in their Christian faith, they are compassionate about serving incarcerated men and women. Chaplains are able to relate to a wide range of ages, faiths, backgrounds, and ethnicities. As the “lead shepherd,” the Chaplain must demonstrate a well-rounded gift set of ministry, volunteer leadership, administration, development and be enthusiastic about FMM discipleship programs.                     

 

Specific direction for this position shall be provided by the FMM Executive Director.

Develop a staffing structure that supports the efficient delivery of programs and services.
Hiring and managing the staff.

Promotes a team environment that is prayerful, joyful, efficient and purposeful.

5.  Lead and Manage Fundraising
Lead fundraising efforts within the region. Personally cultivating and soliciting donors, and facilitating fundraising plans.
Must be comfortable explicitly seeking donations and able to cultivate interested parties into active financial partners.

 

6.  Build External Relationships And Serve As An Advocate

Able to form respectful and constructive relationships with Christians of various backgrounds and beliefs, members of other faiths, and persons of no religious faith.
Initiate and deepen relationships with various community stakeholders, including donors, volunteers and other FMM alliances.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:-


REQUIRED:

Person of Christian faith and a member in good-standing of a Christian church
Accepts the FMM Doctrinal Statement
Proven leadership abilities
Organized with ability to multi-task
Develop fundraising strategies and oversee planning and implementation of events
Promote the ministry at various off-site functions
Interview, hire, facilitate training and evaluations of all chaplains and support staff
Oversee recruitment, training, and supervision of all volunteers
Oversight of all funds & related record keeping
Insure proper relationships maintained with Sheriff and jail administration at jails hosting a FMM mission

Facilitate process for expanding FMM programs into new county jails
Verbal skills, especially relative to fundraising
Analyzing information / trends; develop budgets
Assure safety and confidentiality relative to staff and supporter's FMM activities

 

DESIRED:
Resides in Flint, MI area or within 45 miles west, north, or south of Flint

Knowledge of criminal justice system
Above average writing skills
Ability to anticipate problems and offer creative and flexible solutions
Human resource management, including recruiting and hiring practices, training and development
Knowledge of not-for-profit business practices, financial analysis, and fund raising


TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Degree in ministry work, social work, business administration, or related field strongly preferred.
Experience in business administration, human resource management, or comparable position requiring leadership and management skills.
