Position: Full-time contractual, flexible hours
Rationale: Liberia is ranked as the fourth poorest nation in the world, recovering from a 14-year civil war and a devastating Ebola epidemic. The educational system is in shambles. There are few qualified teachers. Most schools have no electricity, lights, running water, or textbooks. IEI’s testing of high school students showed that few are performing above the third-grade level in mathematics. IEI has benefitted from generous start-up funding to successfully launch a program addressing three of the country’s most pressing areas of need - education, spiritual, and economic. IEI is positioned for nation-wide impact in Liberia, and is seeking a sustainable model of funding to fully engage the opportunity.
Purpose: The IEI Fundraising Manager will:
1. Build relationships with potential funders
2. Refine and develop IEI’s fundraising strategy
3. Secure funding for IEI's Liberia program ($150K for 2018, $500K for 2019, ...)
Profile: Highly successful fundraiser, proven experience raising funds for education in the developing world, passion for the world’s neediest, fully embracing the values and mission of IEI.
Responsibilities: Identify new donors and partners, build relationships, research foundations, write grants, negotiate partnerships, solicit gifts, effectively communicate the Samuel Morris/IEI story, document activity, track results, maintain excellent communication with the executive director and teammates, and fully leverage all available resources to meet the funding goals.
General Qualities: Mission-minded, humble, hardworking, team player, strong interpersonal skills, crosscultural sensitivity, marketing expertise, excellent writing and presentation skills; ability to prioritize, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
